Value of a Natal Reading
Curiously enough, no one need ‘believe’ in astrology’s validity to find value in the experience of a Natal Reading. It can be approached as a tool for self-discovery and reflection, much like any other introspective practice.
A Natal Reading can be remarkably helpful if you’re seeking:
1. Awareness and Self-Discovery: By providing a map of your personality traits, strengths, and weaknesses. It’s also a tool for deep self-reflection, helping you understand yourself better and why you might react in certain ways.

Techniques Used
Imagine an astrological landscape where the planets, that is, the functions of our consciousness, are being starved by enemies, delighted by friends, agitated by the Sun, or even healthily proud.
Say that, in a natal chart, Saturn is starving Mercury. Now the Mercury function suffers, meaning it is somewhat impaired. Plus, all things ruled by Mercury in the chart suffer as well. Concretely, the person will feel a strong limitation about those things, and that will make them unhappy.
Now imagine that this unfulfilled Mercury is also delighted because his friend Venus sits in the same sign. It’s as if they were in the same room chatting and Venus was there to help. Now, Mercury feels better! All the hardship from Saturn is lessened.
This is just a highlight of how the Vedic astrology technique of the Laajitaadi Avasthas, as taught by my amazing teacher, Ernst Wilhelm, might sound in a Natal Reading.
These ‘avasthas’ or planetary conditions show how fulfilled or unfulfilled planets are in the pursuit of their goals. They help us understand why we suffer the way we suffer, and how we can hope to start consciously breaking those patterns, to a certain degree, for a happier life.
But this is not the only technique used in the Natal Reading. My foundational approach being that of Tropical Vedic astrology, I will primarily look at the South Indian chart for the general dynamics of your chart, applying Parashara and Jaimini ‘rasi’, or sun sign, techniques.
However, I may also observe – and show you – your Western chart whenever you have certain precise, significant natal positions that a Western approach will explain better.
How to Prepare for a Natal Reading?
The birth chart is truly a psychological mirror of incomparable richness and complexity. It’s all there: ‘all the beauty and the bloodshed’ – to quote the recent documentary title featuring artist Nan Goldin. All we need is to carve it out, piece by piece, layer by layer.
That is why the Natal Reading session, to be of any consequence, will take about two hours. It is also very important that you stay in a quiet place for introspection and privacy, ensuring that no one enters the room.
For the best experience, I recommend using a device with a larger screen than a mobile phone—ideally a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet. This allows me to share my screen effectively, and show you the details of your chart.
Sequence of a Natal Reading
Beyond its psychological depths, the birth chart can also be seen as a static promise of karma due to unfold in time.
Therefore, during the Natal Reading, we may examine relevant life periods and/or events that already occurred, exploring how they align with your chart’s indications.
And although it is not the purpose of the reading, we will still take a glimpse at the near future – unless that’s not your thing. In that case, just let me know beforehand in the booking notes.
That being said, a typical Natal Reading will go on as follows:
- Primary focus: A deep, comprehensive analysis of your birth chart, detailing its specifics by signs and houses.
- A bit of a conversation: We explore significant periods and life events you’ve already experienced, examining how these align with patterns indicated in your birth chart.
- Looking ahead: We conclude with a brief overview of key upcoming transits, giving you insight into future influences (unless you prefer to skip that part).
This outline may change based on the specifics of your chart and current needs. Nothing is rigid; everything is tailored to you.

The Natal Reading is the ideal starting point for first-time clients, particularly if you’ve never experienced an astrology reading before.
However, if you’re primarily interested in guidance on timing and future decisions, you’re welcome to book a Present and Future Reading directly without first completing a Natal Reading.
